What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is an official approval given to institutions, universities, colleges and programs. It is a third-party formal evaluation or verification. In the US National Advisory Committee on International Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) is an advisory body to the US Secretary of Education. The federal government is therefore still the top-level policy makers and controlling authority of accreditation.

Accreditation Bodies

There are many accreditation bodies in the world. An authoritative body that performs accreditation is called ‘accreditation body’. The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) provide international recognitions to accreditation bodies. The Emirates International Accreditation Centre (EIAC)is the largest accreditation body in middle east. In south Asian region Pakistan National Accreditation council (PNAC) and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABC).

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the largest in Europe. The National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) are the largest in Oceania region. The South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) provides accreditation in African countries.

What is NBA (National Board of Accreditation)?

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), India was established by the AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) of AICTE act in 1994, in order to assess the quality competence of programs offered by educational institution from diploma level to post graduate level in engineering and technology, management, pharmacy, architecture and related disciplines, which are approved by AICTE.

NBA came into existence as an independent autonomous body with effort from 7th January 2010 with the objectives of assurance of quality and relevance to technical education, especially of the programs in professional and technical discipline i.e., engineering and technology, management, architecture, pharmacy and hotel management, and catering technology, through the mechanism of accreditation of programs offered by Technical institutions.
